Classic is in fashion
Hi, boys and girls are nice to see you again!! This week is time to explain the aesthetic of the architecture in this subculture and without further ado let's continue with the topic.
The architecture in Dark academia involved colors such as black, brown, green, gray, and white ( usually dark tones that can represent luxury and elegance). There are a lot of images on the internet where you can see baroque style and buildings with the roofs too high, and usually are European buildings (or with European inspiration)
Seasonal imagery of autumn is also common. The imagery of Gothic architecture and Collegiate Gothic architecture, candlelight, dark wooden furniture, and dense, cluttered rooms often occur. The subculture has been described as maximalist and nostalgic. Universities that are often featured in dark academia imageboards include Oxbridge, Durham University, the University of Edinburgh, and Harvard University.
We can appreciate these images that the buildings are very old:
The image above is shown the University of Oxford, although the exact date of its foundation is unknown, there is evidence of a teaching institution as early as 1096, making it the second oldest university in the world and the first in the English-speaking world.
The second one is the University of Edinburgh which was founded in 1582 and is the fourth oldest university in Scotland.
But it wouldn't be dark academia if cemeteries weren't among the hotspots. All in the spirit of memento mori.
Some traits that are shared but not to be confused with are mahogany paneling, classical columns, and rusticated stone. One other dominant feature of this aesthetic is periods originating in Europe.
For example, there are many images of Christian and Classical figures that emulate European culture and beliefs. On balance, Dark Academia emits classic and grand elements that many recognize.
For today is everything, I hope you enjoyed this blog, I'll leave a video about the topic below. See you next time <3
Near where you live, Where can you find buildings with this type of aesthetic?
Hey Isa! Such an important information. In my town there's no much to see, but we have the church, the cementery and a giant castle close to a mountain. Very random. You should come see them ;)
